A must for art enthusiasts. Home to modern and contemporary art from Singapore and Southeast Asia, the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) is housed in the former St Joseph's Institution - Singapore's first Catholic all-boys school.
The SAM also presents exhibitions on contemporary art and design, new.media and photography, featuring works by artists from Australia, Israel, Japan, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and United States.
The main attraction of the museum, includes the thematic display of works culled from the Museum's permanent collection of modern and contemporary Southeast Asian art, which offers visitors different perspectives of understanding and engaging with national and cultural identities and social histories.
Not to be missed is the Museum's Cyber Gallery. The gallery houses experimental works and artist projects where theatre, World Wide Web, architecture and media broadcasting are integrated in innovative forms.Free guided tours of the museum in English are available at 11.00am and 2.00pm daily (extra tour at 3.30pm on weekends). Free Japanese guided tours are at 10.30am on weekdays.
