Sri Lanka Government had made a major change in the visa issuance for the foreigners who want to visit Sri Lanka for vacation, business and education. Earlier all the foreigners were able to secure on arrival visas for their stay at the entry point from the Srilanka Immigration officers at no cost. Now the tourist arrivals had changed the position of the Sri Lanka Government and all the foreigners will have to get their visas prior to their arrival through the online visa application form.

According to the Sri Lanka Government's latest proposal there will be no visa fees for those children under the age of 12 from 01 January 2012 and for the others it will as follows.
- Maldivian passport holders and Singaporean passport holder would be exempt from this new requirement, based on reciprocity.
- South Asian travelers will have pay US$10 for the visa.
- All the other country citizens (78 countries) must pay US$ 20 to obtain the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system.

Many Airlines to introduce new kind of seating.

Sri Lanka President's office has announced that the President has instructed the officials to come with an online visa processing system to speed up the process for those who are willing to visit Sri Lanka as issuing of on arrival 30 days visas at the airport is going to be scrapped soon. Singapore passport holders and Maldives passport holders can enjoy the on arrival visa facility as usual. This is because these two countries are offering on arrival visas to Srilanka passport holders in their countries. So far the visa fee is not decided.

No more on arrival visas at the Colombo International air port for many country citizens except Singapore passport holders and Maldives passport holders. This will come in to effect from 30th September 2010 according to the Sri Lanka Department of Immigration & Emigration. Travel operators said this may affect the tourist industry specially those tourists who are coming in a lot from India.
The next day the decision was taken back and the authorities decided to issue on arrival visas to all people at the airport.
U.S State Department has canceled travel warning for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is looking for tourist and business people from the U.S.A soon as the U.S State Department has canceled the travel warning for Sri Lanka. The separatist war with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was ended in the year 2009. And there after no incidents were reported about the threat to human beings. So after one year the U.S State Department has made the decision to lift the travel warning for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan airline cut flights to some Indian cities.
Sri Lankan airlines have announced on Wednesday they are scrapping some routes to Indian cities like Cochin, Calicut, Coimbatore and Hyderabad. They are taking these decisions as they are losing in profits because of the Indian low budget Indian airline companies.
Sri Lankan airline is the national carrier of Sri Lanka and it is partly owned by the Emirates of Dubai, whom have 40% share in the airlines.
