If you'd like to explore the different cultures of multi-racial Singapore, the best way would be to devote an entire day walking around Chinatown, Little India, Geylang Serai, Arab Street or Katong. Chinatown is at its best during Lunar New Year (normally in February) or Mid Autumn Festival (September) when the streets come alive at night with stalls selling festive delicacies.

Little India literally awakens to a blaze of lights during Deepavali (November). The Malays put on their best attire during Hari Raya when Geylang Serai bustles with activity, the streets filled with the scent of flowers, spices and various edible goodies.

Katong, an enclave of Peranakan culture and architecture, is also a well known magnet for food lovers. Many Singaporeans make a special trip here for a taste of laksa (rice noodles in rich coconut gravy) or any of the mouthwatering Straits Chinese dishes from their favourite stall.
